She-E Wu

She-E Wu

Internationally renowned percussion soloist and educator She-e Wu has joined Majestic & Mapex concert percussion as an artist and clinician. While serving as Associate Professor of Music and Director of the Percussion Program at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, Ms. Wu maintains an active schedule as a marimba and percussion soloist, composer, clinician and percussion festival judge throughout the world.

As a child in Taiwan, She-e Wu demonstrated musical talent at three and a half years of age when she began piano lessons at a KHS Music School.  KHS, Kung (Contribution) Hsue (School) She (Society), translates to the phrase "contribute to schools and society" which expresses the company's commitment to enhancing human quality of life and culture. The KHS Corporation established a network of community music schools in Taiwan born from the company's beginning as an educational products supplier. By the 1950's KHS was manufacturing wind instruments and by the 1980's was a full-scale musical instrument manufacturer with world-wide production and distribution of brands including Jupiter Band Instruments, Mapex Drums and Majestic Percussion and is the parent company of these brands today. Since her beginning as a young and gifted music student, She-e has gone on to become a world class percussionist and is now once again associated with the same company that provided her first musical training. Both KHS and She-e Wu have grown together and are now working together on the future refinement of percussion instruments and activities in the percussion community.

"I want to be part of a Percussion Movement" Ms. Wu states "aligned with a company that takes good ideas seriously, and has the vision and resources to turn those ideas into reality for my music and the success of my students."

In addition to teaching, touring, and performing, Ms. Wu has composed works for marimba and percussion, commissioned new works for marimba, released recordings, participated at numerous summer workshops and seminars, designed mallets and instruments, and also served as a judge for Paris International Marimba Competition, PAS International College Percussion Ensemble Competition, Atlanta Snare Drum Competition, PAS Large Percussion Ensemble Composition Contest, and PAS Marimba Competition.

"She-e Wu has had a major impact on many areas of the percussion community and she has only just begun. We are thrilled to welcome her to Majestic & Mapex percussion and look forward to what we can accomplish together in the both the near and distant future." ---Chris Hankes, product manager
